One of my greatest life lessons so far: our children do not “belong” to us. They get to be who they are. Believe what they believe. Love who they love. Dream what they dream. Pursue what they pursue. It is our job to love and protect and support them until they can do those things for themselves, and even after, if we are able. ❤️The psychological freedom made possible by rejecting the idea that your children are extensions of you? WHEW! 😅Personally, I just want my kids to be happy and healthy and kind and self-sustaining.Because while I believe in the importance of self-actualization and recognize the merits of hard work, the hustle and grind culture ain’t it. 😩And you know what? It’s my busy season. In any given year, there are times when I’m doing a lot of writing and creating, and other periods, like Spring, early Summer and Fall, when I’m engaged in intense client work with speaking mixed in.I remain grateful for every opportunity to touch hearts, open minds, and share insights that people can use to transform their employee experiences. When I was eight, I told my great aunt I would one day live in a mansion and be a “big boss.” When she asked who would clean my mansion and cook my food, I told her I was going to get a “house husband.” 🤣I’ve been alive nearly five decades (hello, September 9!), and my wants keep evolving. 💫These days, I want peace. Harmony. Beauty. Health. Love. Connectedness. And a way to make a difference in the world. This last “want” is what fuels my work and my company The Waymakers Change Group. If you’re a woman of a certain age, you need this book. If you’re a young woman, you also need this book, because if you’re fortunate, you will someday be a woman of a certain age. If you’re a woman of color, you especially need this book, because it was written with you in mind.
